SAVE WATER SAVE LIFE

Today, when I think about water, it reminds me the poem, “The Rime of Ancient Mariner” which I read in my school days written by Samuel Taylor Coleridge in 1797-98.   In the poem a ship passed the line was driven by storms to the country towards South Pole and then drove to Great Pacific Ocean where the passenger didn’t have any drop of water to drink.   The poet explained the situation with the help of following lines:   Water, water everywhere, And all the boards did shrink, Water, water everywhere, Nor any drop to drink. It is the situation which we all may be facing in the facing in the future.   To save our future we should start work from today only.   I know it’s already too late because as per a report by NITI Aayog , Delhi and some NCR parts will be water less in the year 2020.   It is really a very big issue on which we all should not only think but should act every now and then.   There are many people who believe that wat...

Logical Positivism and Education

Logical Positivism is logical knowledge which is based on direct experience. It is also known as scientific empiricism. Bertrand Russell, Hume, C. W. Morris, Carnap, Whitehead , Wittgenstein were the prominent scientist / philosophers who propagated this philosophy. Main thought of the Philosophy Carnep is of the view that philosophical thoughts should be analysed logically by using scientific methods. Wittgenstein gave the idea that world is an essence of fact not an essence of any object. He criticized science by saying that science is not an organized form of names but an organized form of sentences. However, the main purpose of above philosophers was to prove the futility of metaphysics. They tried to give a scientific base to philosophy rejecting metaphysics. Thus the basic purpose of logical positivism is to prove metaphysics as meaningless. According to logical positivism there are two ways of knowing: 1.       Knowing by experience 2.  ...

AGAINST POLLUTION

This is perhaps a necessary step to bring the world's most polluted metropolis back on track. The Environmental Pollution Control Authority, or EPCA , has banned diesel-powered generators throughout the National Capital Region. This ban was there earlier, but its scope was limited to Delhi and New Delhi only. It has now been extended to parts of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana adjoining the capital. This restriction is imposed when the entire NCR environment is in relatively better condition. One of the major reasons for this is the weather and also the prolonged monsoon. It is also certain that such conditions will not last long. As the cold increases, the air in this region starts to become dangerous in terms of all the standards of health. The sheet of temperature and mist does not allow the dust and smoke of the metropolis to rise very much and people here are forced to breathe in this poisonous air. Therefore, such decision was also necessary before winter came. Keeping in mind...

DELHI CHOKES AFTER DIWALI DESPITE THE BAN ON CRACKERS

Delhi has now rightly attained the notorious image as one of the most polluted cities in the world especially during the winter season. This season starts with Diwali which is one of the most celebrated and popular Hindu festival in the country. The festival is marked by lighting of earthen diyas and burning of crackers which does not help the situation of rising pollution in the city. The city basically becomes a toxic gas-chamber by the time festivities die down. In order to fight with rising problem the Supreme Court in 2017 put an immediate ban on the sale of conventional crackers in the city of Delhi and NCR [1] .   Also in 2018 the Supreme Court ruled that only Government approved ‘Green crackers’ with fewer emissions shall be allowed. Even after such ban, the pollution level in Delhi along with that of NCR has reached to such critical level that we are basically living in situation of health emergency. After Diwali the AQI (Air Quality Index) dived to the level of ‘ver...

Food and Youth

Our food makes us what we are, how we think and how we conduct ourselves amongst others. Every food habit is influenced by a set of factors prevailing in the environment of an individual. In the initial years of life, we take these basic habits from our family especially parents, out of which mothers play the most pivotal role. Later on, our own observation and personal encounters with food and influences of our social circle decide upon our food habits. There has been a sea difference between the food habits of our ancestors and today’s generation. This difference has emerged as a result of vast availability of a variety of food items which are easily available all across. The youth of today gets easily lured away by something called ‘Fast Food’ which is fast in all aspects. It is easily available, handy to eat and satisfies hunger in a short period of time. However, it brings with itself a lot of adverse effects which get hidden under the layer of the aesthetics and tastes that...

REGULATION OF ABUSE OF DOMINANT POSITION IN INDIA

Competition is engine of free and fair market economy. It is capable of bringing out best in human beings and also equally capable of bringing out darker side. Competition involves a process through which competitors compete with each other in order to sell their products to customers. They use various strategies to win customers such as introducing discounts, economies of scale which ultimately results in low cost and more profit. But some enterprises in order to gain more customers and profit indulge in bad practices such as cartel, abuse of dominant position etc. which result in breakdown of fair competition. It also causes distortions in free and fair market conditions of the economy which harm the competitors as well as consumers. Thus there was a need to develop competition law which would regulate the market and help in prohibiting anti competitive practices and abuse of dominance in market. Abuse of dominant position is causing an inevitable menace to market across the ...

Gandhi - Disaster of Politics

What are the main aspects of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi's personality? Use the most popular idiom in the world of marketing today, so we can say that he was a 'Disaster'? After his incarnation the direction of Indian politics completely changed. Today, more than seven decades have passed for him, but Bapu has become such a legend, which is cemented with every controversy, and prides with every changing time. Not only India, the world's resistance has learned a lesson from them. Recently, the streets of Hong Kong were flooded against Beijing's attitude. The reason for this was the law of the Chinese government, under which the authority to prosecute the people of Hong Kong was given to the courts present in the Chinese mainland. Despite all the threats and pressures, resistance continued and Mahabali Beijing had to bow down. The seeds of this movement had fallen in 2014. Then the demand was for independence and people were united against Chinese supremacism....

With falling in Sensex since Budget Day, Is It right time to buy shares?

BSE Sensex have lost more than 10 per cent since the Budget Announcement of July 5, 2019. The imposition of tax surcharge on the super-rich, is likely to hurt Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) and Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs).There are approximately 45 per cent FPIs and FIIs, who will have to convert themselves into corporates or end-up paying higher tax. This perhaps hurts them and consequently, over the last few weeks, they continuously sell stocks in NSE and BSE.This sustained selling by Foreign Portfolio Investors and Foreign Institutional Investors Pulled down BSE and NSE indices. For the month of July, FPIs have net sold in the domestic market to the tune of $2 bn. Persistent selling by FPIs and FIIs, is likely to see more downward pressure in the stock exchanges. There is slowdown in Indian economy. Apart from super-rich tax surcharge, there are some other reasons for selling stocks by FPIs and FIIs.There is depreciation in rupee to the tune of Rs 69 a dollar, 0...

SMELL MARKS – A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS

Smell marks is the type of non-conventional marks where the smell is attached to any goods or services or any class of goods or services , which plays the function of its trademark.
