Bitcoin: A Disease or an Antidote?

The digital coinage, which is based on an open-source, peer-to-peer online global network, was launched in 2009 by a mysterious developer who refers to himself as  Satoshi Nakamoto . Bitcoin is currently the most widely used alternative currency in the world, with its total value in circulation recently estimated to be worth over a  billion dollars . Though it is a highly sophisticated and well developed concept in both theory and practice, Bitcoin would have an extremely deleterious effect on our society if its broader economic role were to increase to substantial levels. Although many view it as an extremely attractive alternative currency alternative, Bitcoin could potentially harm our society in three particular ways: by significantly increasing crime, by causing a drastic decrease in social development investment, and by  destabilizing economies  due to lack of government control and regulation. In recent months, Bitcoin has witnessed dramatic fluctuation in both cost and ove

Intelligence ……… a broad perspective

The dictionary meaning of term “intelligence” is the capacity to acquire and apply knowledge. Faculty theory of intelligence is one the oldest theory, according to this theory mind is made up of different faculties like reasoning, logic, memory, imagination and discrimination. These faculties are independent of each other and can be developed by rigorous mental exercises of the difficult subject-matter, the Unifactor Intelligence theory of Alfred Binet (1916) is about general intellectual ability which is made up of several discrete abilities which include. Ø     To reason well with abstract material Ø     To comprehend well Ø     To have a clear direction of thoughts Ø     To relate thinking with the attainment of a desirable end and Ø     To be self- critical All these abilities combined together is called general mental ability. Thus, intelligence is a single but complex mental process which can be measured by different kind of materials designed for the purpose.

The RTI Act: A Real Step To Ensure Good Governance

Power is derived from knowledge and information is the basic component of knowledge. The transformation from governance to good governance is possible, if there is possibility of increasing participation of people in governance and free access of information. By realizing this fact, Indian parliament passed Right to Information Act 2005 to make government, accountable, responsible, efficient and transparent. Access to information and openness are of crucial importance in ensuring the accountability of the government. In a democratic country, Government from village to central level is accountable to the people and people have right to know as to what the Government is doing and how it is doing and why it is doing. There is a presumption that whatever is done by the Government is done for the betterment of the people. A government which is not open may be tempted to commit administrative misconduct. To be governed well is the right of every citizen. The presence of so much poverty,

Motivational Complexities in Organizations

‘Motivation’ is perhaps the most used, and at the same time, the most ‘misused’ term in the entire corpus of management literature. Used, because motivation is the lubricant of the machinery of management. Nothing and nobody works, and cannot work, without motivation. Misused, because there are umpteen interpretations of this seemingly innocuous phenomenon. Theoretically defined, motivation is the strong urge or drive that impels an individual to hit targets and achieve goals. In gross practical terms, motivation is probably a fancy term for manipulation. If A is able to make B do A’s work under the illusion that it is B’s own work, this phenomenon is grandiosely referred to as B being motivated by A, but, in effect, it is a sheer case of B being manipulated by A. So, the point being driven home is that this concept called motivation is not as flawless as it is made out to be. There are a large number of contradictions and inconsistencies involved herein, which lead to a lot of grey

Optical Wireless for Engineering Services

Image
THE PROBLEM: Engineering services firms must add or re-assign personnel on deadline to meet customers ‘time-sensitive project demands. Large-scale engineering projects for rapidly changing corporations require temporary facilities such as rented office space or portable office trailers, which need high-speed network connectivity for access to large data files from computer-aided design (CAD), modeling, process simulation and imaging applications. To remain competitive, engineering services firms must operate flexible high speed networks that enable employees to collaborate projects from a centralized server. For engineering services networks with two or more sites, wired T1/E1 connections are insufficient. The steep costs of trenching and installing fiber—combined with the many months necessary to obtain permits and complete an installation—make dedicated fiber an unattractive option. For deployment of centralized network data centers and support of critical applications in multiple
