BIOPLASTICS: A SCIENTIFIC APPROACH TO REDUCE PLASTIC POLLUTION

Bioplastic is a type of plastic which is biodegradable as well as eco-friendly plastic that is made of renewable natural resources. Bioplastics can be boon in removing the plastic waste problem which is contaminating our planet and causing pollution to the environment. We may better say that bioplastic (BPL) is pollution free and zero waste alternatives to traditionally used plastic. Types of Bioplastics (BPL): 1.                  Starch based BPL – These are used for the making wrappers for packaging, biodegradable polyesters etc. 2.                  Cellulose based BPL - These used for making thermoplastics and also for packaging. 3.                  Protein based BPL – These are used for making body panels of automobiles. 4.                  Hydroxy Alkanoates (Polyesters) – for example polythene like poly hydroxyl butyrates. Characteristics of Bioplastics (BPL): 1.                  Bioplastics are similar to conventional plastic, equally resistant and vers
