PREDICTING TEACHER’S SUCCESS

From the dawn of history, each social group has passed on its accumulation of beliefs, practices, and institutions to its children, who, in turn, have passed on this heritage to their children. At first the process was simple. Children acquired many knowledges and skills through the process of inter learning or coming directly into contact with other members of the group. As conditions changed, however, life demands become more intricate and complex. Changing social, political and industrial conditions led to specialized activities and more complicated forms of social cooperation. The result of all the changes, which consumed centuries of times, was that parents came to have little time to devote to their children; furthermore, their lack of adequate training made them unfit to guide their children in a more complex environment. The final outcome was the establishment of schools and the selection of specially trained individuals as teachers. When we talk about specially trained i...

The Science of Decision Making

Essentially, a decision is a choice among possibilities. It involves assessment of the courses of action available and a determination of the action ( or nonaction) to take. A decision occurs when a person with an unfulfilled need takes an action to satisfy that need or Desire. Intuitively, “a good” decision is one that selects the best available course of action in the face of uncertainty about the consequences. Why is there uncertainty? because decision making does not necessarily have all the relevant information in hand. You can't by logic alone weigh having coffee with friends against the library session.   Will having coffee with friends end on a pleasant note for the future? Will the reading prove relevant to what’s asked on the exam ? You can't know the definitive answers to these questions at the time you have to make your decision.   Some decisions are easy to make and indeed may not even feel like decisions because the choice seems so obvious. There is ofte...

Classroom Discipline – What a teacher can do?

In a classroom, discipline is a tool used by a teacher to make sure that theclass routine is followed, rules and regulations are enforced, and the students are learning in a conducive learning environment. Classroom behavior can be analysed seeing the reasons for the behaviour, the teacher’s attitude towards the behaviour, and the effect of the behaviour on the learning process. For example, the amount of noise in a class may not be so important as the cause of that noise; what is confusion in one situation maybe orderly procedure in another. The significant question is whether all members of the group are progressing towards the educational goals.Following ways will help Teachers establish desirable behaviour habits in students: 1. MIND-MAPPING: A POWERFUL TOOL TO NOTE-MAKING

MIND-MAPPING: A POWERFUL TOOL TO NOTE-MAKING -           Dr. Bhavna Joshi, Assistant Professor, B.Ed.   A diagram of mind map is used to represent the content or data in the form of ideas and words that are linked and arranged radically around a central idea. It is used to generate, visualize, structure and classify ideas, and used as an aid in studying, organizing, problem solving and decision making.   Mind Maps were popularized by author Tony Buzan. He  is known for his contributions to understanding of “how the brain functions”. He found that the left side, known as the home of rational and linear thinking, of language and numbers. The right side being the holistic, associative, artistic thinking—of pictures and music and colour. By combining elements of each side of the brain, Buzan said, mind maps would optimize the brain’s ability to create, to learn, to remember.   Mind Mapping is an extremely effecti...

Empathy

Getting into other’s shoes is how usually EMPATHY is defined as. But is it only about getting into other’s shoes? And how do get in to other’s shoes? Is it that simple? Empathy is about connecting with what it’s like to be someone else. In order to empathize with someone, you need to pay attention to them and really listen to them. While researching I observed that different people have defined empathy in their own way, which opens different discussion point regarding this topic. KarlaMcLaren defined Empathy as, “A social and emotional skill that helps us feel and understand the emotions circumstances, intentions, thoughts and needs of others, such that we can offer sensitive perspective, appropriate communication and support”. Whereas Daniel Kieran says, “Empathy is to sincerely and accurately feel value and reflect the specific emotions of another person.” While analyzing these and several other definitions EMOTION was found common between all of them. To understand the...
