A diagram of mind map is used to
represent the content or data in the form of ideas and words that are linked and
arranged radically around a central idea. It is used to generate, visualize,
structure and classify ideas, and used as an aid in studying, organizing,
problem solving and decision making.
Mind Maps were popularized by author
Tony Buzan. He is known for his contributions to understanding of “how the brain
functions”. He found that the left side, known as the home of rational and
linear thinking, of language and numbers. The right side being the holistic,
associative, artistic thinking—of pictures and music and colour. By combining
elements of each side of the brain, Buzan said, mind maps would optimize the
brain’s ability to create, to learn, to remember.
Mind Mapping
is an extremely effective method of visual presentation of taking notes. They
help us to create and associate ideas, to improve thinking, and make
connections that you might not otherwise make.
Mind Maps are
more innovative than the conventional notes. They are useful in summarizing
information and consolidating large chunks of information in simplified way.
Mind Maps are a creative way of the problem solving.
A Mind Map
shows the outline of the title or topic which shows the importance to
individual points, and connect the facts related to one-another. That means,
they are very quick to review, as one can refresh all information in their mind
just by scanning them. In this way, they can be effective mnemonics by remembering
the structure and shape. Mind Map can give us indication that need to remember
the information within it. They engage one’s brain in the process of understanding
and connecting information than conventional notes do.
Mind Maps are useful for:

Brain storming
·
Summarizing
information, and note taking.
·

information from different sources.
·
Thinking the complex
problems and making it easy.
·
Presenting
information in a way that shows the overall content of the topic in a
simplified manner.
·
Helpful in Studying
and memorizing information.
