Role of Government and Educational Agencies During COVID-19 Pandemic on Education System

Corona virus is affecting the whole world today. About 190 countries around the world have been affected by this and the economy is struggling badly, we are slowly moving towards a global recession. Due to this virus, many countries have been a situation of lockdown and curfew. Industry, socio-economic sector as well as another important sector being badly affected by this virus is that of higher education. In a country with a large and dense population like India, the situation is still positive and the Prime Minister of India, respected Narendra Modi has taken many concrete steps to save the country from this epidemic.

The Government of India and the governments of all the states have also taken many steps in this direction, e-content is being provided to the students through various online mediums, UGC and other regional boards, courses related notes and other material on many apps and websites for free. However, government agencies like UGC, AICTE, CBSE etc. are concerned about these subject and necessary guidelines are being given.

“Manodarpan” scheme will be launched by the Government of India for psychological support, mental health and emotional support of students, teachers and parents. Also, children were already being educated through Swayam Prabha DTH. 12 more channels will be added in which live sessions will be telecasted through skype, 6 hours of course material per day and 24 x 7 on all days of the week with three repeats telecast. There is a provision to take advantage. E-content program will be brought for children with disabilities under a special 'Digital Accessible Information System' (DAISY), under which courses will be started keeping in mind the needs of students with disabilities. The government's campaign to move the existing education system online was already going on, which has now accelerated due to the Corona crisis. The Ministry of Human Resource Development has started a campaign like Read India Online regarding this. In which there is a preparation to teach many courses online in future also. UGC has issued a complete plan for this, under which it will be mandatory for universities to teach 25% of the course online only.

Along with promoting online education, the focus of the government is also on making teachers ready for it. This is the reason that there is a preparation to give online training to all the teachers teaching in the schools. At present, the task of preparing the complete plan has been entrusted to the National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) and NCERT.
