THE POWER OF JOURNALING
What is Journaling?
Journaling, is simply writing down your thoughts and feelings. What if there was a simple exercise in journaling to help you conquer any internal challenge that prevents you from becoming your best version? It may help you lose weight and get fit. It may also help you in acquiring key skills and knowledge in your domain. It can provide a plan to face the most challenging task in your workplace. This will help you to be happier and richer also!
- Purchase a Journal: A
beginner, who can range from a student to a CEO, can start by purchasing a
blank journal, diary and a pen. Today, we can use various digital tools
and apps for journaling. One can use Ever note, One Note, etc.
- Dedicate 15 minutes a day for
reflecting. This is the most challenging step, however, one can start with
3 minutes, while having coffee. This is an appointment with
yourself.
- Find a quiet
spot where you're not going to get interrupted.
- Find the right time,
ideally the same time every day when you're not going to be interrupted.
- Write anything that springs to mind: The
blank pages of a journal encourage you to have an honest conversation
every day with yourself. So give yourself a chance, without judging,
censoring, or trying to direct your emotions. Write what you think and
feel, not what you OUGHT to, think or feel.
- Do not discuss your journals with
others. Your reflections are yours; they are not for anyone else.
- Starter: If
you do not know how to begin, ask a trigger question, and collect your
answers.
- How am I feeling, at
present?
- How am I feeling about
control over my life?
- What requires
immediate-high-quality attention?
- In my life?
- In my career?
- In the world?
- What are the activities
that make me happy?
- What are my fears? Write 3
solution to conquer them.
- What are the things that
I'm grateful for?
The aforementioned questions are given to support
your imagination. Journaling enhances creativity. One should not worry about
grammar, or decoration of the journal, as it is your personal journal.
Journaling helps in taming our monkey mind, and translating thoughts into
concrete ideas and action plans. It is one step towards a fulfilling
life. As Robin Sharma has rightly said, “Writing in a journal reminds you of your goals and of your learning in
life. It offers a place where you can hold a deliberate, thoughtful
conversation with yourself.”
