Rafael Controversy
After the statement of former French President FrançoisOlinda over the failed deal, the statement of the French government and the
Dassault Aviation has come out with contradictory statements. The French
government issued this statement Friday night after the statement of President
François Oland, in which he had claimed that the Indian government had
suggested the name of a private company for the Rafael deal. A French website
in an article quoted Oland as saying that the Indian government had asked the
French government to nominate Reliance Defense as an Indian partner for the
deal. Holland said, "We did not have any choice. The Indian government had
suggested this name (Reliance Defense) and Dassault spoke to Ambani. "
Responding to this claim, the statement issued on Friday night said, "TheFrench government had no role in selecting Indian industrial partners for the
deal." It was further stated in the statement that according to the Indian
acquisition process, the French company has a complete exemption that whatever
Indian partner company deem it appropriate, he chose it, then sent it to the
Government of India for approval of that offset project, which he has in India
They want to work with their local partners so that they can fulfill the terms
of this agreement. Companies have complete freedom to choose Indian partners,
whom they think are most suitable, then can offer for the approval of the
Indian government, with whom they have the desire to operate in India. Daffodil
Aviation, a manufacturer of Raphael aircraft, also said in his statement Friday
night that Dassault Aviation had decided to partner with Reliance Group of
India. This was the decision of Dallas Aviation. The announcement of buying 36
Rafael fighter aircraft from France was done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in
2015 and the deal was signed in 2016
