Programmed Instruction- makes learning easy
Programmed Instruction works on the principle of
reinforcement and self- learning - based on the theory of trial & error and
Operand Conditioning. In this technique of learning, the learner progresses at
his own pace. As the Learner progresses his skills get refined to the desired
level of learning.
Research shows that learning is effective and better
when the student is actively involved, motivated to learn, content is presented
in small units which are psychologically arranged – from easy to difficult
concepts.
The content in Programmed Instruction can be presented
either on the computer, tab or mobile phone. The students learn at their own
pace freely and comfortably. The content is designed in a scientific manner and
is creative in nature in order to modify the students’ behaviour according to
the desired learning outcomes. The responses of students are immediately
confirmed which act as reinforcement for students. The incorrect responses help
in diagnosis of the weakness of the student for which remedy is provided.
Though Programmed Instruction is effective in dealing
with complex problems it is effective in achieving higher cognitive objectives
and encourages free thinking & imagination. As the learner proceeds with
his learning he gains information at every step which is suitable for concept
learning. Regarding subjective content the students are encouraged to write the
response by constructing their own sentences which enhances their creativity
and is compelled to think for framing sentences. For the multiple choice
questions, the student chooses the answer from a set of options available
wherein the incorrect response will result in remediation. Students are also
expected to respond to Comprehensive questions which test the understanding of
the learner.
Though Programmed Instruction is an effective way of
learning, the students tend to guess answers in objective type questions; the
model does not categorically cater to the average, below average or above
average category of students. Students tend to get away from the desired path
if they use the incorrect pages for redirecting the answers. However based on
Psychological Principles it remains an efficient method of Learning and
progressing a comfortable pace.
