New Year Resolution
Here comes the New Year and now the time has
come to make resolutions. Each one of us
make resolution when the New year is approaching and this is the perfect
opportunity for all those who have failed to start making the changes that they
said they would make tomorrow, day after tomorrow , may be next month, or possibly when winter
starts.
A New Year's resolution is a
custom, most common in the Western countries but now it is also becoming famous
in the Eastern part as well, in which a person resolves to change behaviour, to
accomplish a personal goal or otherwise improve their life.
But
how many of us really complete our resolution..?
According to World Report,
the failure rate for New Year's resolutions is said to
be about 80 percent, and most of them lose their resolution by mid-February. If
this is right, it's clear that there is nothing wrong with us if we are not
fulfilling our resolution; the problem is in the tradition itself.
Why
resolutions don't work?
You'll
find psychologists and research firms online that give any number of issues to
explain away this huge failure rate of 80 percent. Resolution, It's a strong,
demanding word. It screams, I must! It's a demand that we place upon ourselves,
and there is no space for failure.
According
to the study of Forbes “Don’t be part of that sign. This year, instead
of resolutions set goals.”
Why goals?
That’s simple - because
goals are precise, whereas resolutions tend to be broad and vague. Goals are
much more functional, which is what goals make them more efficient.
How might you transform your New Year's goals?
Get clear on what you want
to achieve, why it’s important, and how you’ll make it happen. Like making
extra money in the next year. How will you make more money? Will that be
getting a promotion, changing jobs, or starting a side business? What further steps
do you need to take to achieve that goal? If you’re looking to change jobs,
then you’ll need to start networking and plan your job search. Will you need to
take help from a person to help you with these goals? What else will you have
to do? It’s easy to lose focus when the goal is too big, so try to make goals
which is achievable.
