Educational Administration: Philosophy and Curriculum Transaction
Philosophy
is a set of belief and values which may direct the behavior and action of an
individual which may vary person to person.
School
philosophy is a set of beliefs which may influence the role and place of
teacher, students and school administration. Curriculum is a center of whole
teaching learning process. Construction and successful transaction of
curriculum may also influence by the distinct philosophy of the school.Teacher
centered philosophies tend to more authoritarian and conservative in comparison
of learner centered philosophies of education. Permissive schools give opportunities
to all learners to manage the learning practices and to make their own
decisions.Likewise, the permissive schools promote teacher autonomy at every
stage of learning. Teachers are welcomed to take participation into the process
of curriculum construction and implementation.
Behaviorist
approach believe in controlling behavior and managing classrooms through a
system of rewards and punishment. A humanistic school of philosophy consider a
child a maker of their own destiny. Role of the teacher must be a good observer
or facilitator. Unacceptable behavior of the student must be discussed as
problem which need to be cure by effective counselling and communication
skills. School administration plays vital role in execution and implementation
of curriculum effectively. Educational administration is not only concerned
with arrangements, time table, infrastructure, it is more concern with attitude
towards work and students. Thus school administration means the practical
measures to provide maximum assistance in carrying out the aim of education in
the light of student needs and interest.
The
role of educational administration is very prominent in successful transaction
of curriculum in the form of decision regarding planning, implementation
policies and practices. Educational administration is more concern in the
process of curriculum construction. It also evaluates and improve educational
programs and activities to make teaching leaning more meaningful and relevant.
Curriculum planning is an initial stage of curriculum development. Here the
decision taken regarding instructional objectives, amount of content, teaching
method or methodologies and evaluation techniques. A curriculum transaction is
completely depending on the learning experiences provide to the students by the
educational administration in the form of facilities and resources. Thus, can
be concluded that curriculum construction is a complex process but successful
and effective transaction of curriculum also important to attain predetermine
set of objectives and to maintain quality of education.
