New media in the form of a double edged sword.

 The new media of the new era seems to be changing its form day by day. Since the independence of India till date, the media has taken itself towards a lot of change. In the year 2047, the country is completing 10 decades of independence. But due to technology media got freedom a decade ago and it has adopted its new form in the form of social media.

As of 2021 Data, there are 53 crore users of WhatsApp, 41 crore users of Facebook, 1.75 crore users of Twitter and 21 crore users of Instagram.

Through social media - Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, political parties are making every effort to reach out to the people, especially just before the voting. It has emerged as a big and effective medium to convey the mind to the people. Not only this, sometimes it is also used to pacify those who speak against them.

It is not that its effect was always the same as it was thought. Many times even rumors were also fuelled through this. A few years ago there was a lot of discussion about a graphic related to Myntra's 'Draupadi ke Chirharan'.

A form of Social media (in double edged sword) was seen around 2016. Before that, when PM Modi suddenly reached Pakistan to meet Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, people appreciated it. However it is being believed that there is definitely a section where both the internet and the parties have access.



Mediating role of New Media in Digital Age…

Technologies of today’s media refer to the all kinds of web-related technologies like we can see social networking sites, blogs, online social media networking, and other communication technology forms around us. At this time People are thinking that social media is safe and less risky for all individuals with regard to communication and interactions. Researchers had found in the results of the several studies that new media technologies influence the behaviour of the people, enabling them to interact online, create online communities, and become socially engaging. Thus, it can be argued that new media in this age creating a mediated role while somewhere it has been also found that engagement of the audience/users/individuals is crucial in new media technology communication.


While in last year (in 2021), in an investigation,  the Wall Street Journal revealed that Facebook was aware of mental health risks linked to the use of its Instagram app but kept those findings secret. Internal research by the social media researchers found that Instagram plateform worsened body image issues for one in three teenage girls, and all teenage users of the app linked it to experiences of anxiety and depression. It isn’t the only one evidence of social media’s harms. Watchdog groups also had identified Facebook and Instagram as avenues for cyberbullying and reports have linked TikTok to dangerous and antisocial behavior, including a recent spate of school vandalism. Thus we can say in the digital age new media is working like a double aged sword
