Covid-19 and its impact on Sports
No
spectre of the life has remained un-touched but to understand where it hit the hardest,
we need to see the biggest of the events which accumulated biggest crowd and so
the budget. They are marquee sports event which are led by Olympic and world
cups. Olympic are held every four years and so the world cups for major global
sports like Football etc. The qualification for these marquee events is exceptionally
long and tiring process which starts with zone and goes up to the top few
nations from each continent. Each match, events are like a stepping step to
accumulate the points/rankings and based on them only the final qualification
for the Olympic events are decided.
The athletes,
federations and countries make a long road map for the Olympic preparation even
ahead of 8 to 12 years in advance which has amalgamation of finding the athletes
at the early stages, then starts the right mix of training, exposure, and
preparation to take it to the next level. It also needs the hosting of underage
events which gives the right exposure and a lot of investment and
infrastructure boost-up as well. These unprecedent times can have major impact
of planning of these activities.
The other aspects are
the level of competition among the players for the extremely limited slots that
are being at offer and the prime of any athlete’s career are of very short span.
It is almost like a once in a lifetime chance to be present at the biggest
sporting events and at the same time to present your nation. It does not come
with the prospect of not only winning a medal but the kind of recognition and
chance of becoming a toast of nation. It’s just like you worked hard throughout
the life from very early age and but not able to eat the fruit of your hard
work.
