Green Consumption : The Next frontier

 “Green marketing”, “Ecological marketing”, Environmental marketing’ “eco friendly products” are the buzzwords, that are comprehended of societal marketing, with an aim for sustainable environment . But only green process, green production, green packaging & green buying will never take us to ideal goal i.e zero waste. Through an analysis on product life cycle, it is observed that there is a significant portion of negative impact of consumption on environment. Consumers’ positive attitudes toward eco-friendly products and services will not serve the whole purpose. Rather, along with the green initiative taken by government and industries, consumers also need to adapt responsible behavior for example -If a tooth paste is herbal & green, but if consumer leaves the water running while brushing the teeth, just green manufacturing and green packaging won’t help. Consumers must make sure that consumption must be responsible as well, then only we will be able to reach at the goal of sustainable environment. But, now the new challenge is how to encourage people towards responsible consumption leading to sustainable environment. Greenhouse gas footprint depends specifically on the types of products customers purchase, how they consume and in which manner they dispose off—for example, conserving water and energy while doing the laundry or recycling containers properly after use. We all contribute to pollution in some way or other, each one of us has to take some action for which the following are some suggestions, that can be implemented from today.. • Have the habit of switching off the electronic products, when no one is in the room. • In Buffet dinners we must not take too much in our plate at once. This habit would decrease food wastage by 20%. • Try to travel in public transport or make car pools. • Segregate the waste, put biodegradable waste in green and recyclable waste in blue. • Bio waste can be kept in vessel and compost could be made through it. • Shift to sustainable products • Start gifting plant or product that are recyclable We expect that each one of us should become a responsible citizen and contribute toward sustainable environment by following the above habits. The choice is with us whether we want to have a green & clean environment or mountain of garbage with absence of natural resources. This will decide the future of the our forthcoming generations.

As per section 17 of depository Act the rights and obligations of the depositories, participants and the issuers whose securities are dealt with by a depository shall be specified by the regulations.
