Delinquency and Educational Adaptation
Meaning of Delinquency
· Delinquency is aggression: Bandura and Walters are of the view that delinquency is the manifestation of frustrated needs of the child which lead him to behave aggressively.
· Delinquency is crime under age: According to New Meyer, a delinquent person under age who is guilty of anti-social act and whose misconduct is an infraction of the law.
· Delinquency is Functional Psychiatric Disorder: The fundamental intrapsychic pathology is attributed to faulty relations between parents and children in the early years of life, some of which are manifested in the form of anti-social behaviour.
Identification of a Delinquent Person:

Aggressive behaviour

Stealing money or other

Behaving rudely and insulting
to older people
·
Using abusive or filthy
language
·
Bullying and mockery
·
Damaging school property
·
Harassment or torture od young
children, strangers, beggars, animals, etc

· Home Factors like broken families, poverty, disability, lack of affection, etc
Educational Adaptation of Delinquent Children
·
Such children should be
admitted in normal schools and taught in an inclusive setting.
·
They should be taught by
specially trained teachers who can handle them properly.
·
Meditation and Yoga should be
mandatory for students.
·
Counselling sessions with
trained counsellor should be arranged for such students.
·
Special attention must be given
on behaviour modification of these students.
·
Practical and assignments
should be given more weightage than theory papers while evaluating such
students.
·
They should be given ample
opportunities for co-curricular activities like art, painting and music to help
them constructively release their negative emotions and develop super-ego.
·
Regular suggestions and
feedback should be communicated to parents by the teachers.
