POLLUTION IN DELHI/NCR

Severe pollution is there during the months of mid October to the end of November, especially during the festival of Diwali. This happens mainly due to two reasons, firstly, due to the burning of fire crackers in Diwali and secondly due to the burning of straw from crops from the adjoining states of Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. One should stop fire cracker instantly, a law itself cannot do justice until the individuals realize its adverse effects. As far as straw is concerned, the Government of Delhi in collaboration with Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), Pusa, New Delhi has done spraying of a chemical in the agricultural fields so that the straw gets converted to manure and it helps in the growth of the new crops as well. This thing is totally managed by the Government of Delhi and the farmers are not required to spend any money regarding this. The spraying of chemicals onto the straw takes some hours and it gets converted to manure in 1-2 weeks and so burning of straw is not required and thus the pollution gets reduced to a huge level. Even the Central Government has given the farmers some machines free of cost to convert the straw into powdered manure which will help in the growth of future crops. Still, the burning of straw did not stop and the AQI levels degraded day by day. The Government of Delhi has taken a very commendable step in eradicating the air pollution in the National Capital Region and the farmers should help them in the prevention of pollution so that we can give the next generation a better air to breathe and a better future to live.
