OFFSHORE WIND POWER GENERATION: NEW INDIA

In order to achieve the increasing demand of Power in our nation the National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE) have tested India’s first LIDAR based wind power test of the Gulf of Khambhat in Gujrat. The Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) machine had been placed 23 Km from the coast of Gujrat for a period of one Year .Earlier as per the R & D ,south  and west tip of the country has been having maximum potential of wind which could be easily collected to run Power Plant and the various turbines. Ministry of Renewable Energy and NIWE in collaborated with these places to search wind in India and they jointly launched the  LiDAR based technology to examine the condition of wind in these offshores of Gujrat to see the potential of such wind.According to the sources received from the institute of wind energy the major sign of  wind was passing from  south of south west India with wind speed at the rate  of 30% and the secondary prevalent wind direction in Northern India.

The major instrument which was used to detect the speed measured a value approximately 50-250 m which was a very good speed to be converted to run the turbine from such a height of wind turbine from ground level of water. It is a very successful operation and the plan worked out very well as the demand of almost 5 lakhs family can be achieved from these wind Power by 2035.Further it was calculated that the sum average maximum wind speed at the lower portion of the turbine  blade is of 40 meter was measured to be 16m/s which is a very good count. Also another advantage is that the wind turbine built in the water will reduce land cost to the government and the maintenance would be easy as less movement of people. Also this will be very useful for the coming generation to come as the decreasing number of Non Renewable sources are decreasing time by time.
