improve athletic performancewhereas negative stress adversely affect our
health. Stress is subjective in
nature because something that is stressful for you may not be stressful for
someone else. There are different types of stress and not all of them are bad.

a deadline.Stress can affect our physical health, mental health, and our behaviour
too.
Why is stress harmful?

on our body is proven to lead to enduring psychological and physical health
issues; these include heart disease, diabetes, anxiety, and depression and so on.
Stress management
It consists of making changes to your life
if you are in a constant stressful situation, preventing stress by practicing
self-care and relaxation and managing your response to stressful situations
when they do occur.
Tips for Stress Management
1. Try to understand your stress.
How do you stress? It can be different for
everybody. Try to understand what stress looks like for you?
2. Identify the sources of your stress
What causes you are to be stressed?
3. Try to recognize stress signals or symptoms.
What are your internal alarm bells? Low tolerance,
headaches, stomach pains.
4. Try to recognize your stress coping strategies.
What is your active tactic for calming down? For
example, some people cope with stress by self-medicating with alcohol, overeating,
smoking etc.
5.
Implement healthy stress management strategies.
It’s good to be mindful of any current unhealthy coping behaviours so, you
can switch them out for a healthy option. For example, if overeating is
yourcurrent go to, you could practice
meditation instead, or make a decision to phone a friend to chat
through your situation. The American Psychological Association (APA)propose
that switching out one behaviour at a time is most effective in bringing
positive change in our behaviour.
6. Give priority to a self-care
When we took time for ourselves, we
put our well-being before others. This can make you feel selfish initially, but
it is like the aeroplane analogy—we need to put our oxygen mask first before we
want to assist others. The simplest ways that promote
well-being, such as enough sleep, healthy food, and exercise, which we are often overlooked.
7. Ask for support when needed
If you’re feeling overwhelmed and
want help then reach out to a friend or family member you can trust and talk
to. Talk to a healthcare professional they can also help you to reduce stress,
and help us to learn healthier coping strategies.
