Project Planning and Scheduling Tool
This
is an ICT era, where workforce, engineers, managers and even the entrepreneurs
can’t even think of preparing their day-to-day reports. People working in the
product life cycle can’t function efficiently unless they are fully accustomed
with some of the IT tools. An explanation as to how the IT tools can help
document complete information about a project including its schedule,
utilization of resources, keep track of the timeline, budget and even the
workload for the ongoing project. Most commonly tools are the MS Project and
SmartDraw.
Project
Plan and Scheduling are the two very basic and important function of a project
development. The main purpose of both is to complete the project in time. The
difference is that the project plan serves as the master blueprint
whereas the scheduling deals with breaking the plan into smaller steps and
deals defining target dates, assigning each member of the team specific tasks
to be completed at certain time period.

User Interface of the MS Project Tool
The
Major areas seen on the screen shot of the MS project shows the Ribbon, Command
Tab, Group, Status Bar, Shortcuts, Labels and other useful Tabs.
Toolbar: All
frequently used commands are visible in this area. These commands are used to
perform actions in a project. The description
of
the command becomes visible by just pointing at the command. This further
relieves the project team of mugging up the command. Of course over a time the
project team becomes familiar with these commands.
View
Label: This is visible on the extreme left side of the screen and include the
different views such as Gnatt Chart View, Network Diagram view etc. It tells
you about the view that the project manager is using. Sibgle or multiple views
can also be selected for display.
Other
useful utilities: The page also contains other useful items such as shortcuts
and zoom sliders that can be used to zoom in and out. Status bar displays
scheduling mode of new tasks and the filters applied to active view.
