Benefits of Video Lectures in Classrooms
I,
as an Assistant Professor, working in the field of Engineering and Technology
would strive to promote the use of
video lectures in the classroom as a terrific resource for supporting the curricula.
As an academician, our aim is to get students engaged and energized in the
hands-on learning process, and video is clearly a vital medium that generates a
much greater enjoyment than the more conventional printed material. Sight and
sound serve as a perfect medium for students who are auditory or visual
learners. Video lectures tend to maintain the interest of students for longer
periods of time.
Assume investigating
the laws of motion, energy and sound transfer by viewing the launch of the
space shuttle into space? And what about teaching with the voices of great
historians, political figures and famous people while teaching about the past. Using
video lectures in education provides a sensory experience that allows concepts and
ideas to actually become an experience. Video lectures provide interactive
instruction and is a very flexible medium. And an invaluable part of a video
lecture is to have an ability to stop, start and rewind. We, as an academician,
have the option to rewind a section of the video to review a segment to ensure
that children understand a key concept. We can ensure to add further interactive
sessions by conducting discussions or repeating demonstrations in the
classroom. I
welcome and encourage additional ideas from teachers, parents and students about the effective use
of video lectures in the classroom, and in education generally, in order to
assist them in their commitment to a path of constant improvement.
