Social Networking in our lives “Let social media be an Inspiration and not an Addiction”


Technological developments have changed the lives of people drastically, especially with the formation of the social media. Today social media is not only about tweeting about your achievements but includes much more. Social media is getting very popular because of the increasing prominence which it has gained these days. Some years ago when social media got a boom and when many of the social networking sites came into existence which we are using today, at time nobody had even thought that social media will rule our lives one day in such a way. Social media is an internet based tool to distribute information among individuals. It involves blogging and various other interactive activities which enable the individuals to connect themselves in conversations with one another, often as a discussion over a particular blog post, news, article, or any event. With internet becoming a necessity in every home or office, majority of people who are online spend most of their time on social media sites/apps  like Facebook, WhatsApp, Snapchat, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn etc. These days social networking is downed into our lives so much that today’s youth cannot even imagine their lives without it. It has changed our lives so much that its impact cannot be ignored. We can’t afford to let loose our presence on social in today’s scenario, it has become as essential as any other thing in our life.
Some of the major impacts of social media are:
      1.      News: These days there is a sudden drop down seen in the sale of newspapers. Most of us                     prefer reading news online on our mobiles/electronic gadgets etc. which is a great example                 of   influence of social media on our lives.

2.      Leisure Time: Social media has greatly affected the way we spend our free time. No more time left to visit parks or libraries during our free time. With the rise in social media sites more and more public is logging in on daily basis just to increase their networking and share information with others.
3.      Socializing: Social media has changed the way people socialize and interact with each other. These days’ traditional venues such as cafes, parks etc of meeting and interaction has become very obsolete because most of the people are discovering friends via social media.
4.      Social Media and Networking: Social media not only helps people stay in touch with existing contacts, but also helps in forming new contacts as well. These contacts are usually with people who share common interests. Some of the social media sites like LinkedIn also allow people to create their professional networks that help them to explore various job opportunities and to find out ways for career advancement.
5.      Importance in Marketing: Marketers have discovered the great prospective of social media of reaching potential customers. Social media also helps the marketers to attract new customers and promoting goods and services.
