Technological
developments have changed the lives of people drastically, especially with the formation
of the social media. Today social media is not only about tweeting about your
achievements but includes much more. Social media is getting very popular
because of the increasing prominence which it has gained these days. Some years
ago when social media got a boom and when many of the social networking sites
came into existence which we are using today, at time nobody had even thought
that social media will rule our lives one day in such a way. Social media is an internet based tool to distribute
information among individuals. It involves blogging and various other interactive
activities which enable the individuals to connect themselves in conversations
with one another, often as a discussion over a particular blog post, news,
article, or any event. With internet becoming a necessity in every home or office,
majority of people who are online spend most of their time on social media sites/apps like Facebook, WhatsApp, Snapchat, Twitter,
Instagram, LinkedIn etc. These days social networking is downed into our lives so much that today’s
youth cannot even imagine their lives without it. It has changed our lives so much that its impact cannot be
ignored. We can’t afford to let
loose our presence on social in today’s scenario, it has become as essential as
any other thing in our life.
Some of the major
impacts of social media are:
1.
News: These days there is a sudden drop down seen in the sale of
newspapers. Most of us prefer reading news online on our mobiles/electronic
gadgets etc. which is a great example of influence of social media on our
lives.
2.
Leisure Time: Social media has greatly affected the way we spend our free
time. No more time left to visit parks or libraries during our free time. With
the rise in social media sites more and more public is logging in on daily
basis just to increase their networking and share information with others.
3.
Socializing: Social media has changed the way people socialize and interact with
each other. These days’ traditional venues such as cafes, parks etc of meeting
and interaction has become very obsolete because most of the people are
discovering friends via social media.
4.
Social Media and Networking: Social media not only helps people stay in
touch with existing contacts, but also helps in forming new contacts as well.
These contacts are usually with people who share common interests. Some of the
social media sites like LinkedIn also allow people to create their professional
networks that help them to explore various job opportunities and to find out
ways for career advancement.
5.
Importance in Marketing: Marketers have discovered the great prospective
of social media of reaching potential customers. Social media also helps the
